TidBit Tuesday

I have been so busy working my buns off that my blogging has taken a back seat and that is ok! Last week was a heavy training week and my goodness was my body feeling it! The tiredness that comes with the heavier weeks is heavy but knowing that I am closing in on my goal is awesome! This week is a little lighter in the week but longer workouts on the weekend! Only 39 days left until IRONMAN Chattanooga!

This past week I also had some family time and some good times with friends.

Here is a little Tidbit Tuesday:

  1. Have you ever sat by the phone all night waiting for someone to call? Hmm, not that I can think of. 
  2. Do you believe that everything happens for a reason? I do, I don’t think we always know right as it is happening, or even for some time, but eventually I think things happen for a reason. 
  3. Do you rather follow your heart or your head? My heart, my head over thinks and ruins things sometimes. 
  4. Do you snore or steal the covers or roll around in your sleep? I talk in my sleep, I have very vivid dreams, so sometimes I talk. I don’t steal the covers but I like to have a blanket wrapped all the way around me. 
  5. Do you consider it more important to be liked or respected? Respected, not everyone will like you, and that’s okay. 
  6. What view would you most like to have out of your window?The ocean. I find it so calming. 
  7. If you were going to die at midnight, what would you be doing at 11:45 pm? Loving on the girls. 
  8. If you woke up tomorrow as an animal, what animal would you choose to be? Hopefully an ocean animal, ideally a whale. 
  9. If you could go back in time, once, and change a single thing – what would it be? I wouldn’t. Things shape us, for better or for worse. I wouldn’t change a thing. 
  10. Would your life be better or worse, if you knew the time and place where you would die? I don’t know, better to be able to live carefree of things, worse knowing exactly when and where. 
  11. What have you done to pursue your dreams lately? How about today? Ironman training! Two hours this morning. 
  12. What is the hardest lesson you had to learn in life? People will hurt you. 
  13. When you’re 90 years old, what will matter most to you in the world? My children. 
  14. If you could write a note to your younger self, what would you say in only three words? It Will Pass.
  15. Are some lives worth more than others? No. I think that each life, has it’s own destiny and own meaning, and good or bad, it’s not for us to judge it’s worth. 

Gear Junkie: Stem Caps

The stem cap that came on your bike is probably super simple and not unique to you in any way. Stem Caps are a two piece bicycle headset top cap system, and they are so cool!  Stem Caps are a fun way to add a custom look to your bike. And in my case, be able to look down at your stem cap and have it mean something to you.

And it was super easy to install! Like literally less than 3 minutes!

First, you take off your old stem cap.

Then you screw in the stem cap base.

Then you simple pop on the new stem cap.

And VIOLA! Done!

Test Week: Swim Assessment

Of the three disciplines, swimming has been the most difficult for me and the hardest for me to learn to love. But with each swim, I feel a little more confident in the water and perform slightly better.

I had high hopes going into my Swim Assessment, to have improvements in all three disciplines this week for test week. And I am just thrilled that was the case!

It was a 4 second improvement on the 400 yard assessment and a 4 second improvement on the 200 yard assessment.

And with Chattanooga quickly approaching, I couldn’t feel better about how things are coming along!

Test Week: Run Assessment

I’ve never been a fast runner. So running threshold tests for me feel like torture. I prefer a nice long run, where I maintain a comfortable pace for a long period of time.

The Running Assessment is an all-out 5k. Just like if you were running a race, but against yourself (or in my case, my Garmin).

It was a beautiful morning for it!

As you can see, it was a slight improvement over my last assessment, by about 21 seconds per mile and just shy of a minute over all! I’ll take it!

Big, huge shout out to my coach Bryan Kreitz and TriDot! I’m thrilled to still be seeing improvements this far into the program!

Test Week: Bike Assessment

It is Test Week and today was the Bike Assessment! The Bike Assessment is to monitor your training improvements (and hopefully not your setbacks). I was pretty excited about the Bike Assessment because I feel like this is an area that I have worked pretty diligently in and feel much stronger at than I did previously. (I guess I kind of feel that way about all three areas, but I like the bike the most, ha!!).

And today it did pay off and was proof that all this hard work is actually paying off! Hurray!!!

The Bike Assessment consists of a 15-mile ride and “Conducting time trial (TT): Goal is to hold a steady pace you can sustain for the entire TT without ‘blowing up’ early or having enough left to kick at the end.”

So it’s a balancing act of working really hard but not so hard that you can’t complete the assessment or totally suck at the end.

This was a big improvement, well in my mind anyways, with a 6:49 improvement!! I felt really good on the bike and felt strong!!!! SOOOOOO close to Chattanooga! Cannot wait to see the results on race day.

I cannot say enough good things about Coach Kreitz and TriDotTriDot. If you have been thinking about hiring a coach, I 100% feel that this was the best thing I could have done for my training!!!

 

Why my Coach is making today a not-freak-out moment

It’s exactly 2 month until Chattanooga. 2 MONTHS! No, I am not freaking out, which is amazing, cause I really thought I would be at this point.

I really think that hiring Bryan as a coach and working with Tridot is the number one reason I have been feeling so good about my training and not having a total freak-out-moment today.

  1. I love having someone to reach out to when I have questions, that will answer me honestly and not appease me with whatever it is that I want to hear.
  2. I love having someone with the knowledge of the ins and outs of Ironman training. I feel like I learn something new from Bryan all the time. Like, for example this weekend, when I was downing my water after a long run and he said, “Make sure you sip when you do that.  When you drink that much that fast most bypasses absorbing into organs and muscles.” WHAT?!? I am 32 and just finding this out????
  3. I LOVE the TriDot system, I love that it adjusts to my needs, my personal fitness level and makes a personalized plan that is exactly and perfectly for me.
  4. I love the accountability of having someone looking at my training. It’s easy to make a calendar, have a bad nights sleep and skip a workout. Who will know? Who will care? But on race day, all those missed workouts matter. With a coach watching over your plan, you know that someone will notice and will hold you accountable.
  5. Sometimes athletes get crazy, and they think, I can run 2 marathons back-to-back and then do my Ironman… AH-HEM… Probably not a good idea. Having a coach that you have to reason things out with, and that won’t be afraid to say, “NO, You are not doing that”, makes a huge difference in the decisions that you make.
  6. Also, having someone that you can reach out to on the shitty days and say, “hey I sucked today” and that person will turn around and say, “it’s okay to suck, it’s not about perfection”.

So, on that note, this week is TEST WEEK!!! So stay tuned, as I am excited to see how things are coming along in my training!!! 🙂
