This isn’t a typical sprint. The swim is the night before and in the pool. So the cool part about this, is you can go “all out” knowing you have until the following day to do the next two legs of the tri.
The swim was great, my goal was to hit under 10, which was exactly what I did, finishing in 9:58, which for me, is speedy.
The following morning, ate a Honey Stinger waffle and bananas, drank some Nuun and coffee.
Amber, Twila and I set up our transition areas and just watched the people coming in. Loving my OGIO bag to bring in all my stuff in.
Raced in my Velocity Sportwear kit and Zensah compression sleeves.
The gun goes off, and you then start according to your swim time. On the bike, I felt great, picking up people slowly as I headed up the hill. I was concerned that I hadn’t had my bike outside yet for the season, but felt good and felt that all the time on my trainer over the winter paid off. Hit the turnaround point, at the top of the hill and pushed as hard as I could going back down the hill. Got back into transition, quickly switched shoes (my new Asics were awesome!!), ditched my bike, helmet, gloves and jacket, and grabbed my water and race bib and was off! It’s a short 2.5 miles and then it’s over!
Coming in to my husband and our kiddos all waiting is always a great feeling!!
And I finished 3rd in my age group! Hurray!! The past two years I have been 4th, so this was awesome!
